Nepal, officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, is a landlocked country in South Asia. It is located mainly in the Himalayas but also includes parts of the Indo-Gangetic Plain. Nepal has a diverse geography, including fertile plains, subalpine forested hills, and eight of the world's ten tallest mountains, including Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth. Kathmandu is the nation's capital and largest city. Nepal is a multiethnic nation with Nepali as the official language.

The Nepalese rupee is the official currency of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal. The Nepalese rupee is subdivided into 100 paise. The issuance of the currency is controlled by the Nepal Rastra Bank, the central bank of Nepal. The Nepalese rupee was introduced in 1932 when it replaced the Nepalese mohar at the rate 2:1.

Today let’s see a 250 Nepalese Rupee note issued in the years 1997. The note specifications are as follows:

Obverse: King Birendra Bir Bikram wearing a plumed crown to left; Parliament Building in Kathmandu; Hanuman Dhoka (Hanuman Gate) Old Royal Palace in Durbar Square in Kathmandu; Dragons; and Old coin.

Reverse: Pillars with chinthe guardian semi-lions in front; Himalaya mountain peaks; Sacred bull; Coat of arms; and Bank logo. This multi-coloured note has a Plumed crown as its wateramrk.
