2016-04-28 Thu
Australia has announced that the nation’s first in the Next Generation Banknote Program, a new $5 note will enter circulation on 1st September. To avoid confusion, the note’s design has not been altered in terms of its plastic material used, size, colour and subjects.Tactile features to aid the visually impaired have been incorporated along with security enhancements like a distinctive top to bottom window and the Omron rings.
Apart from that, the new series will depict a different species of Australian wattle and a native bird within the design elements. The $5 note will feature prickly moses wattle and the eastern spinebill.
Media and the general public are not in favour of depicting Queen Elizabeth on their currency notes when there are several other deserving Australian candidates who can be featured.
