Italian Coin Commemorates the 100th Anniversary of World War I

100 years of World War I was observed by Italy by issuing a Proof .925 fine silver €10 coin on 5th May 2015.The obverse depicts a bust representing Italy wearing a band featuring five-pointed star on her head. The design was inspired by the Vittoria Alata sculpture by Cesare Busnelli. Other inscriptions include the nation’s name, the year of issue and the designer’s initial and surname.
The reverse features the sculptural group Sacrifice created for the monument erected in Rome in honour of Italian President Victor Emmanuel II. The sculpture represents a feminine figure kissing a dying hero.
Mintage is limited to 5,000 pieces and each coin costs €60.
