Remembering S.M. ZAMIN ALI on Stamps

Syed Mohammad Zamin Ali was one of India’s greatest Urdu poets, writers and educationalists. He fought for introducing graduate, post-graduate and research courses in Allahabad University for Urdu. He was the one who designed the basic structure of Urdu studies in India. Today, the nation observes his death anniversary.Born on 25th June 1880, Prof. Ali’s grandfather, Nauroz Ali was a good poet as well. He was brilliant in academics and joined the faculty of the Persian and Arabic Department of Allahabad University. His was the one who helped in separating the departments of Urdu and Hindi studies in India. His compilations and books on various poets and marsiya writers were used to design the syllabus for various courses. He has written several educational books apart from his famous poems, gazals and marsiya.
Special commemorative stamps of 0.30 denominations were issued by India Security Press on 25th April 1980. The olive green stamps were issued using the Photogravure technique.
