On 7th March, the Isle of Man Government observed in the 550th death anniversary of one of the world’s most acclaimed sculptors, Donatello by releasing a special coin.

He was the greatest Florentine sculptor before Michelangelo, and the most influential individual artist of the 15th century in Italy.

Produced by the Pobjoy Mint UK , the coin features Donatello’s “The Madonna and Child” roundel which celebrates the birth of Christ, showing Virgin Mary with Jesus and small angels. The obverse features the common design of Queen Elizabeth II. Mintage was limited to 550 pieces only.
