The day of 21st April 1526 witnessed a pivotal event in the history of India which left its significant impact on the history of the nation. The beginning of the year 1526 marked with the establishment of the Mughal rule in India which turned out to be one of the richest periods India ever witnessed.The first battle of Panipat was fought on this day between Ibrahim Shah Lodi – the last ruler of Lodi Dynasty and Babur Shah - the one who laid the foundation of the Mughal Rule in India.
On the eve of Babu’s visit to India, the Lodi dynasty was crumbling. Daulat Khan Lodi and Ibrahim were going through a dispute concerning their claim to the throne. Daulat Khan sought Babur’s help to overthrow Ibrahim Lodi. Having done so, Babur did not settle on what he achieved. He also annexed and defeated Daulat Khan Lodi and established his own control over the throne of Delhi.
The Mughal Empire is considered to be the 5th Civilization of India. For the next 200 years, the country witnessed serious historical and cultural developments and reached to the highest peak of prosperity.
The image shows the last issued coin of Lodi Dynasty and the first coin issued by Babur. The Silver Tanka was the first ever coin issued by Babur in India from Agra. Dated to 934 AH, the coin depicts a beautiful arrangement of mint name and the king’s name written in flawless Persian script
The Billon Half-Tanka of Ibrahim Shah Lodi is dated 927.AH, and it bears the name of the authority and the date of issue written in Arabic script.
