Junagadh is a district in the situated in the Indian states of Gujarat; it is the seventh-largest city in Gujarat. The meaning of the word Junagadh is ‘Old Fort’. It was a part of Saurashtra state and the Bombay State. Later in the year 1960, after the Maha Gujarat movement, it became the part of newly formed Gujarat State.
The Junagadh State became a Mughal dependency during the rule of Mughal Emperor Akbar. Later on, the Mughal Empire started to collapse Babis got involved in a conflict with the Gaekwad dynasty of the Maratha Confederacy over the control of Gujarat.
