Pattern 1913 Indian Head 5-cent to Star at CSNS Auction
2016-04-19 Tue
Heritage’s 2016 Central States Numismatic Society auctions are going to be held from 27th April to 1st May, in Schaumburg, Ill.A 1913 Indian Head 5-cent pattern or James Fraser’s original vision for his famed “Buffalo nickel.” would be a coin that everyone will have an eye on.
It is almost similar to the 1913 Bison on Mound 5-cent piece with just 2 differences. It does not bear “F” initial below the date and the surfaces have a rougher and more granular texture. It also has a wider obverse rim and there is a slight difference in the short feathers of the Indian’s headdress.
Only 17 patterns of these kinds were struck. The finest known example sold for $195,500 at a July 2013 Legend auction. CSNS auctions brought $53.6 million in 2014 and $56 million in 2015.
