A special spooky coin has been issued by Canadian mint for Newfoundland and Labrador's Bell Island. It’s the third and final coin belonging to the Haunted Canada series celebrating the country’s most popular ghost stories.

It is believed that the marshy area near Dobbin's Garden is haunted by a restless female spirit. She first appears as a beautiful woman dressed in white and then suddenly turns into a terrifying old woman. Men who have walked through this area have gone missing for several days and have no idea about what happened to them. All they remember is an old woman walking towards them and pushing them to the ground.

The coin makes use of lenticular technology to show the beautiful woman in white at one instance and the scary old woman when tilted on one side. The lady holds a lantern providing light for a man walking through the haunted area. The beautiful woman transforms into a ghost twisting her hands in a scary way. The young man is terrified and both of them are looking straight at the viewer. Other inscriptions include “CANADA”, “25 CENTS” and “2016”. The obverse features the common portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

It is an exciting way for introducing numismatics to youngsters because of its interesting lenticular design. The mintage limit of the three-ply nickel finish plated steel coin is 20,000.
