2016 Christmas Special Stamps from Around the World!

Let’s take a look at some of the Christmas –themed stamps that were issued this year by countries around the world. Cyprus and Switzerland issued their Christmas stamps on 17th November. A 0.34 Cyprus stamp depicts little lights looped around and a 0.41 stamp shows a simple tree on a white background. A 0.64 Christmas stamp depicts Adoration of the Magi.Switzerland’s Christmas stamps feature a red outline image of an angel on the 1.50-franc stamp. Stamps with similar images of a tree in green, a snowman in blue (1fr), and a sledge in tan (2fr) are also issued.
Seven Christmas-themed stamps were issued by Guernsey on 8th November. They show a holly and ivy, a tree, a wrapped present, Santa Claus, a reindeer, snowman, and star, all in green and gold. Similar seven stamps were issued by Alderney featuring the symbols of Christmas in blue and silver.
On 31st October, Australia issued two 65¢ stamps featuring a wrapped gift and a star. Three other Christmas stamps (65¢, $1.70, and $2.25) illustrate scenes from the stories of the birth of Jesus from the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. Hand-cut delicate paper shapes were created before layering and colouring them to create the beautiful images. Two beautiful stamps were issued by Brazil on 4th October featuring a similar imagery set against the midnight blue sky filled with stars.
Germany issued a 0.70 stamp on 30th November featuring a single red ornament in the foreground, Christmas lights behind and greetings for a “Merry Christmas” in different languages.
Iceland issued a Christmas special non-denominated stamp for use on mail to other European countries on 3rd November. The stamps feature a knitted star and a Christmas candle.
A gingerbread star with white icing and scented to smell like gingerbread is depicted on the €0.65 stamp from Estonia which was released on 18th November. A €1.40 stamp depicts symbols of people and animals forming the shape of a Christmas tree. Christmas cookies are featured on stamps of Gibraltar that were issued on 2nd November.
