Malwa Sultan Ghiyath Shah’s Gold Square Half Tanka Sold for INR 2, 00,000

Ghiyath Shah was the sultan of Malwa during the 15th century. He is also known as Ghiyas-ud-Shah or Ghiyasuddin.He had struck coins in Gold, Silver and Copper. Earlier, Ghiyath shah minted round shaped coins and then later square shaped coins were minted. His round coins are scarcer than his square ones.
This Square Half-Gold Tanka weighs around 5.53gm; the dimension of the coin is 22mm. The flan of this coin is larger than the usual full tanka coin. This coin reads as “Al Wathiq Bi’l Malik Al-Multaji Abul Fath Ghiyath Shah” on obverse with the star mark on the top and “Bin Mahmud Shah Al-Khalji Al-Sultan Khallada Mulkahu” with the date AH885 (at bottom left) on the reverse. Date 885 written in the retrograde style.
This coin was sold for INR 2, 00,000 at the 50th Rajgor Auction.
