San Marino All Set For Its First Ringed-bimetallic €5 Coin

On 20th November, San Marino would be celebrating the Roman Catholic 2016 Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy on its first ringed-bimetallic €5 coin.The Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy is a prayer period held from the Feast of the Immaculate Conception 8the December 2015, to the Feast of Christ the King on 20th November 2016. Unlike other jubilees which are celebrated after 25 years, this year’s event is scheduled specially and is hence called extraordinary.
The Holy Door at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome is opened first which is depicted by an open doorway on the reverse of the coin. A dove with an olive branch along with a hand supporting a mother with her child during a sea rescue of refugees are also portrayed. Refugees fleeing from war territories are represented in the centre. The obverse shows San Marino’s three towers and three feathers along with the 12 stars of the European Union.
The Uncirculated coin has a bronzital (copper, aluminum and nickel) ring surrounding a copper-nickel center. The mintage limit of the 9.2 grams coin is 82,600 pieces and can be purchased for €8.
