What to Expect at the Regency-Superior’s Chicagopex Auction

The 130th anniversary of the Chicago Philatelic Society will be celebrated with the free-of-cost Chicagopex public show from 18-20 November at Westin Chicago Northwest, 400 Park Blvd., Itasca, Ill. 2,650 auction lots will be offered with an estimated value of $2 million.

200 lots of single items like philatelic errors and oddities from the estate of Marvin Frey, one of the leading error stamp dealers in the United States will be offered. A 20-page catalogue features images and descriptions of stamps from 1860 to the 21st century.

A mint example of the 2000 Exploring the Solar System pane with its five $1 five-sided stamps is offered along with a segment of the round hologram design from the $11.75 Space Achievement and Exploration stamp. The 5-millimeter segment shows a portion of the $11.75 denomination above the rings of Saturn.

The die cutting is omitted on a rare error of the 2002 34¢ Year of the Horse stamp in a horizontal block. It has an estimated value of $2,500.

A block of four of the 1991 29¢ Liberty Torch self-adhesive without any die cuts has an estimated value of $1,500.
