Various kinds of gifts are sent to the U.S. federal officials by the foreign governments every year. Different countries send in different kinds of gifts from watches to portraits. In many cases, special coins are also sent across.The amir of Kuwait sent a commemorative coin celebrating the 5th Anniversary of the Proclamation of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as the Emir of Kuwait from 2006 - 2011 to Michelle Obama. Six small gold-plated silver coins were also presented.
The White House Staff Member Susan Rice was given two bronze-coloured coins engraved with the donor’s name and image of the Great Wall of China by the Central Military Commission of China.
The amir of the State of Kuwait sent in a silver coin commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the Liberation of Kuwait and a set of six silver Kuwait 2011 coins for Dr. Jill Biden, Second Lady of the United States.
