An extremely rare Gold Mohur of Nur Jahan, wife of mughal emperor Jahangir minted at Agra. This Gold Mohur of Nur Jahan shows what a powerful Begum Nur Jahan was.The coin's obverse reads “Ba hukm Shah Jahangir yaft sad zewar” means By the order of Jahangir gold attained hundred beauties" with Hijri date 1036 and reignal year 21 within the three circles (middle circle is doted) and reverse sides depicts “zanam Nur Jahan badshah begum zar" which means "when the name of Nurjahan, the Badshah Begum was inscribed on it" with mint name Agra within three circles (middle circle is dotted)
Emperor Jahangir and Nurjahan were both Patrons of arts and different artistic expressions. They built many Garden, Mosques, Serais and tombs.
After Emperor Jahangir’s death in 1627 the influence of Nurjahan declined, she went to Lahore where she built the Shahdara Baug and toady it enclosed within its walls the mausoleums of Emperor Jahangir and Badshah Begum Nurjahan.
This Gold Mohur was sold for an amazing price of INR 76, 00,000 by Todywalla auction on 3rd February 2016 in Mumbai.
