Inscribed coin of Hammiradeva

Rajasthan, meaning “The Abode of the Rajas” gave birth to the great warrior like Prithviraj Chauhan and Maharana Pratap.Another warrior named as Hammiradeva Chauhan (1283-1301 AD) was the last ruler of the Chahmana dynasty of Ranathambhoran. He annexed Abu, Malwa and Mandalgarh. He fought 17 battles and won 13 of them. Because of his rising popularity he drew the attention of Alauddin Khilji and finally was killed by him in 1301.
One of his beautifully inscribed gold half tanka coin is found and it weighs around 5.5g. The obverse bears the Nagari legend “Raja Sri Jaita See Deva Pree”. While the reverse bears, “Raja Sri Hamira Deva Karapitasa 43”. It bears the date “Sa 43” which equals to c.1285 AD.
This beautiful unpublished piece of gold was sold for INR 8, 25,000.
