Colourful Creatures on New Base-Metal Austrian Coin Series

The Mint of Austria has announced that it would soon introduce a new series called “Colourful Creatures” to celebrate nocturnal animals that are commonly found everywhere in the world. The coins would come with a “glow-in-the-dark” featured making the colours visible on the obverse when in the dark.12 coins in the base-metal series would be released over a period of 3 years and the first one featuring a common bat will be released next month. Four coins would be released in 2017 and 2018 and three in 2019.
The obverse of the first coin depicts a flying bat, a full moon in the background along with an old castle and archway. Other inscriptions include 2016 and the species name FLEDERMAUS. The reverse features all the 12 animals that will be included in this series along with the inscriptions REPUBLIK QSTERREICH and denomination 3 EURO.
The mintage limit of this 3 €uro Cupro-nickel 16 g BU coloured coin is 50,000 and sale of the first coin would begin from 5th October.
