The United States of America had issued this commemorative quarter Dollar with the theme of Hawai’i Volcano Park in the year 2012. This quarter dollar was the fourth dollar issued in the year 2012 and 14th quarter dollar issued overall in America most beautiful quarters program.
Hawai’i Volcano National Park was established on 1st August 1916 as Hawaii National Park. This is an American National park located on the island of Hawaii. This National Park encompasses two volcanoes, Kilauea and Mauna Loa. Kilauea is one of the world’s most active volcanoes, and Mauna Loa is the world’s most massive shield volcano.
The Hawai’i National Park was designated as an international Biosphere Reserve in 1980 and it was also declared as World Heritage site in the year 1987.
This quarter dollar depicts the image of an eruption on the east rift of Kilauea Volcano, on the reverse side of the coin.
