Rural Indian Women on Stamp

India is known for its diversity all over the globe. Ethnic clothing is just one of the things that distinguishes one part of India from other. The traditional Indian attire has earned admirers from people from all over the world.The Indian Rural Women exhibits the cross cultural traditions and values. They vary in their attire. They symbolise the highest place women have continued to occupy in the traditional societies of India.
The rural women depicted in these stamps are drawn from the north, south, east, and west of India all of them are bounded by Indian unity of culture and tradition and this is visible in the rich diversity of dress, jewellery and ethnic purity of rural India.
An INR 2 Rupees stamp depicts a rural woman from Arunachal Pradesh - They depict the rich ethnic culture of the North East. The rich and varied dresses and jewellery are symbolic of the cultural traditions of that area.
INR 6 Rupees stamp depicts a Gujarati woman - The western region is represented by Gujarat. The colourful attire and jewellery are traditionally typical. A woman is seen wearing Vatla (spiral necklace) and chunri.
INR 11 Rupees stamp depicts a rural woman from Kerala - The stamp depicts a Kerala woman working in the paddy fields. The rural women of Kerala has a high literacy rate and are traditional bound.
INR 10 Rupees stamp depicts a Ladakhi woman - The woman is seen wearing a traditional headgear of the rural women of Ladakh. It is studded with semi precious stones as can be seen depicted on the stamp.
