Malta's new release

In 2017 under the Numismatics programme, Central Bank of Malta has issued various coins. Its recent issue is an eight Maltese Euros and a €2 coin.

The above-shown coin is €2 which is the part of a brilliant uncirculated set consisting of nine commemorative coins. This coin was minted at the Monnaie de Paris in France. The reverse side of this commemorative €2 which depicts the map of Europe was designed by Noel Galea Bason.

The temple depicted on this coin is Hagar Qim Temples in Qrend, belongs to the prehistoric period. This temple consists of some largest megaliths used in this prehistoric Maltese island. This temple was built in 3600-3200 BC. It is also the oldest free-standing monument till date.

Hagar Qim Temples is among the most ancient religious sites on Earth. This is UNESCO World Heritage Site and is called as ‘Unique architectural masterpieces'.
