9th Edition of Friedberg’s Gold Coins of the World

2017-01-31 Tue

Robert Friedberg introduced a revolutionary cataloguing and numbering system for gold coins in 1958. The 8th edition of the Gold Coins of the World, by Arthur L. Friedberg and Ira S, was issued in 2009. The 9th and the most recent one will be published by the end of January. Even today, Friedberg Numbering System is followed all over the world to study gold coins. The new edition is a work shared by over 100 expert contributors and consultants from across the globe. The author believes that the history of gold coinage is a reflection of the civilisation. Besides that, since ancient times, gold coins have been collected and invested in.

The new edition revises coinage of the Ottoman Empire and adds many new discoveries for various countries. Over 22,000 coins with over 8,500 photos are newly added. Tables of weight, fineness, market valuations in two states of preservation are also provided. There has been a great appreciation in the market value of rare gold coins in the highest states of preservation. Indian and Islamic gold coins are gaining more popularity even though they were looked down upon by collectors for their uncertainty and irregularity.

The 832 pages book costs US$89.95 (€89). E-book or Kindle book is also available. The book also has a directory of the world’s best gold coin dealers and auction houses.
