Dance is a parallel ornament of the Indian tradition. Its tradition is illustrated by various folk and classical dances. All regions have evolved with their own forms of dance and music. But from these various dance forms, six forms emerged and Kuchipudi was the emerald amongst these six jewels.

These dance forms have emerged from the Nayta Shastra, considered as the fifth Veda. This fifth Veda was open to all, irrespective of caste and creed.

This Dance form is called Kuchipudi after the name of the village or the Bhama Kalapam(story of Bhama a consort of Krishna). Kuchipudi dance style is nearly same as Bharat Natyam but this style is freer and less solemn than Bharat Natyam. Kuchipudi like Bharat Natyam has the expressional except or Abhinaya in the dance form with the addition of the Navarasas (nine emotions) in dancers movements and expressions.

Kuchipudi has the tradition of dance-drama taken from Bhama Kalapam but is also performed by solo artists. The beauty of this dance is so divine that a spectator just sits entranced and feels oneness with the emotions that the dancer wants to express.

This commemorative stamp of classical Indian dance Kuchipudi was issued 1975 to celebrate the unique beauty of this dance form.
