Stamps, as we know, are used for postage purposes. But did you know that stamps can be also used as a tax fee? Such stamps are known as fiscal or revenue stamps.

These stamps are used by many countries for various taxes and fees. Putting such stamp on any form of article or document indicates that the fees have been paid or in a few cases the item is tax-free. These stamps were not used for postage except in British colonies where they were used as Postage as well as revenue stamps.

A tax or revenue stamp is used to collect taxes or fees on documents, tobacco, alcoholic drinks, medicines, and entertainment. This stamp of Pudukkottai is the Entertainment tax stamp issued during 1940-45 AD. This stamp was levied on various entertainments by affixing them on the tickets.

These kinds of stamps were also issued by the princely states of Cochin, Jaipur, and Mysore.
