Perth Mint Greets Merry Christmas in Style!
2016-11-14 Mon
A beautiful star shaped coloured coin was issued by Perth Mint to celebrate Christmas. From the initial days when Christmas was celebrated, the tradition was to light a single candle in the window which is symbolic of Christ, the “light of the world.” It is believed that the candle was made to burn throughout the night of Christmas Eve to light the way for Mary and Joseph. The reverse of the Proof 2016 .9999 fine silver dollar features a burning candle with a red bow tied around it, surrounded by a holly wreath. The P Mint mark of Perth Mint also appears.
The obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II along with the inscriptions 1 DOLLAR, and the 2016 year-date.
The coin is packaged in such a way that it can be used to decorate Christmas trees or can also be offered as a Christmas gift.
The mintage limit of the 31.135 grams coin is 3,000 pieces and can be purchased for $69.95 from distributor Talisman Coins.
