In 1954, "Shyaamchi Aai" was the first Indian movie to win the President's Gold Medal, now known as the National Film Award for Best Feature Film.The movie was based on the book "Shyamchi Aai" written by Sane Guruji, which gained him acknowledgement throughout India.
He was a Marathi author, social activist, and freedom fighter and is also referred to as the National Teacher of India.
