Michelangelo on 11th September 1503, started sculpting the 12 Apostles of Jesus in marble.However, the work for it was put on hold due to constant orders from the Pope and the unruly politics from the artists in the country.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe wrote ' Without having seen the Sistine Chapel, one can form no appreciable idea of what one man is capable of achieving.”
