Remembering Mirza Ghalib on his Death Anniversary

Mirza Asadullah Baig Khan, popularly known as Mirza Ghalib, was a celebrated poet of his times. He was one of the most popular, influencial,quotable and the last great poet of the Mughal Empire, popularly known by the pen names Ghalib and Asad.

The legendary poet was born on 27th December 1797 in Kala Mahal into the family of Mughals. They moved to Samarkand (into modern-day Uzbekistan) after the downfall of the Seljuk kings. He started composing poetry at the age of 11, and during his lifetime he wrote many ghazals.

Mirza Ghalib passed away on 15Th February 1869. India post issued a commeorative stamp in 1969 to commemorate the Death Centenary of Mirza Ghalib.
