India's struggle for independence was a movement of national rebirth that united the populace in a large-scale movement that lasted over a century and was centered on the idea of Indian nationhood. Throughout its lengthy history, the War produced remarkable leaders from every region of the nation. Department of Posts released a commemorative stamp on Sardar Ajit Singh, an Indian Revolutionary and Nationalist.

Sardar Ajit Singh, a native of the Punjabi region of Jalandhar, shot to fame in 1907 when he delivered a vehement speech in Rawalpindi against the government's practice of raising land revenue assessments. After being detained, he was sent to Mandalay, Burma, for six months. Ajit Singh increased his involvement in the revolutionary struggle after being freed by publishing periodicals like "Peshwa," which was outlawed and afterward reissued under the titles "Bharat Mata," "Sainik," etc.

On the day India gained her independence, Sardar Ajit Singh passed away. His last known words were, "Thank God, my Mission has been fulfilled."
