Shri Viswanatha Satyanarayana is known in Telugu as Kavi Samrat (King of Poets) and is considered a legend in the state. He was born on September 10, 1895, in the little village of Nandamuru in Andhra Pradesh's Krishna district.

He was well-versed in the Sanksrit and Telugu classics of Ramayana, Bhagavata, and Mahabharata, as well as the writings of Kalidasa, Bhavabhooti, Bharavi, and Bhartruhari. He was a well-known professor in Sanskrit, Telugu, and English, which he taught in several colleges.

His most famous writings are Srimad Ramayana Kalpavruksham and Veyi Padagalu, which were translated into Hindi from Telugu by former Prime Minister Shri P. V. Narasimha Rao as Sahasra Phani.

On April 26, 2017, the Department of Posts issued a commemorative postage stamp honoring Kavi Samrat Shri Viswanatha Satyanarayana, an Indian Telugu writer of the twentieth century.
