Raoul Wallenberg was a Swedish diplomat who served the lives of thousands of Jews in Budapest in the second half of 1944. Despite a complete lack of experience in diplomacy, he carried out extensive and successful rescue efforts during the Holocaust.Raoul Wallenberg served the people of Sweden as a special envoy in Budapest between July and December 1944. He also issued protective passports and sheltered Jews in buildings designated as Swedish territory. He worked with War Refugee Board (WRB) and prevented the deportation of thousands of Hungarian Jews.
Around the world, monuments, statues, and other works of art honor Wallenberg. People preserve his memory through books, music, and films, and many buildings, squares, streets, schools, and other institutions bear his name.
