The Kingdom of Nagpur was founded in the early 18th Century by the Gonds, rulers of Deogarh. It came under the control of Bhosle of Nagpur in the mid 18th Century and became a part of the Mughal Empire. Later, after the Anglo-Maratha war, in the year 1818 CE, it became the Princely State of the British Empire.
The Bhosle family are among the royal or Ksatriya clans of the Marathas. The Bhosle of Nagpur is also known as Hinganikar, one of their ancestors, probably a contemporary of Maloji, grandfather of Chhatrapati Shivaji.
