Mongolian Tugrik is presently the official currency of Mongolia and was subdivided into 100 Mongo. It was introduced on 9th December, 1925 at a value equal to one Soviet ruble. It became the sole legal currency in 1928 replacing the Mongolian dollar and other currencies.
Modern Mongolian coins came in 1 mongo, 2 mongo, 5 mongo, 10 mongo, 15 mongo, 20 mongo, 50 mongo, and 1 tugrik during socialism. In 1922 after the end of Mongolian People’s Republic, the inflation surged and mongo coins were abandoned. State of Mongolia was formed and the Mongolian tugrik coins were introduced. Mongo coins not in circulation any longer as they are of negligible value and are often sold to tourists as collectibles.
