Sardar Patel: The Symbol of Unity
2016-12-15 Thu
He said “My only desire is that India should be a good producer and no one should be hungry, shedding tears for food in the country”Such great thoughts were of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Born on 31st October 1875 in (Nadiad) Gujarat lived a simple life and had very good diplomatic skills. By profession he was a lawyer but when he met Mahatma Gandhi he gave up his profession and took part in the Indian struggle for Independence.
As we all know that Sardar Patel is known as the ‘Iron Man' of India. But do you know what is it that got him the epithet of ‘Iron Man'?
After Independence there were around 562 Princely states which were creating a major issue to merge with India and Sardar Patel was the one who took up the challenge of unifying these princely states. By using the policy of ‘Saam-Daam-Dand-Bhed' (friendship, give-and-take, punishment, and divide-and-rule) and the princely states were left with no other option but to merge with India.
To honour this great leader various stamps and coins were issued.
A commemorative stamp of Vallabhbhai Patel was issued on 31st October 2016 to celebrate the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) having the face value of INR 10. It is a multicolour stamp which has a standing statue of Sardar Patel and to left it has a small portrait of his in Oval circle. It bears the legend ‘National Unit Day’ and ‘Salute to the Unifier of India’ in English and Hindi.
Do you know anything about the standing statue portrayed in the given stamp?

Ok here is the answer of that standing statue. It will be tallest statue in the world to be built in Gujarat. What if we tell you the statue’s height is double of the statue of liberty! Now imagine how magnificent the statue will be. The statue represents the symbol of Unity.
No wonder why India is the best example when it comes to Unity and now we will be having one more reason to represent unity.
