Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Commemorative Coin Act

2016-12-08 Thu

A new Act was passed by the House to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the landing of Apollo 11 (20th July 2019) on the moon with a commemorative coin. Astronauts Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins made the historic journey to the moon and back safely. Apart from honouring the astronaut, the Act also celebrates America’s innovative spirit.

Proceeds from the sale of the coin will be used to fund college scholarships for future astronauts, scientists, and engineers. A portion of the proceeds will also go to the Astronauts Memorial that honours the astronauts and the National Air and Space Museum’s new “Destination Moon” exhibit.

The bill needs to pass through the Senate after which the Congress is likely to approve it. Collectors are encouraged to contact their senators and support the cause. You can call, write, or email your senators and also share the information on social media to get more votes.
