New Gold Coins Celebrate Finland’s 100 Years of Independence

Finland released the design of their new gold coin on 30th November, which will be issued to celebrate the country’s 100 years of independence next year. Finland became independent after the fall of the Russian Empire during World War I.

A sample-minting event held in its Vantaa Minting facility when the first €100 coin was struck by finance minister Antti Petteri Orpo and the coin’s designer, Simon Örnberg. The Silver collector coins were minted by, Pekka Timonen, general secretary of the Finland 100 program, and Collector Coin Committee chairman Tapio Yli-Viikari.

The obverse features an arch that represents Finland’s growing population during the last century. The other inscriptions include 1917 and 2017.

The reverse depicts a mosaic forming the cartographic image of Finland along with the inscriptions SUOMI FINLAND and 100 EURO.

The mintage limit of the €100 .917 gold 5.65 g Proof coin is 3,000. Pre-ordering will begin from 14th December while delivery and the official release will happen from 3rd January 2017 onwards.
