1873-CC Seated Liberty, Arrows Dime Offered for Auction

2016-11-28 Mon

On 13th December, an 1873-CC Seated Liberty, Arrows at Date dime graded AU-53 by PCGS will be up for sale at the Bonhams’ auction in New York City.

The U.S. Mint experimented a lot with coinage in the 1870s. Many new patterns were introduced along with new laws that changed the silver content of circulating coins.

The coin offered at the event is considered to be one of the rarest of the Seated dime series and finding a coin of such high quality is even more difficult. It also has light golden toning on both sides and has an estimated value of $40,000 to $45,000.

A total of 18,791 pieces were minted, out of which only 128 examples have been certified. After the Coinage Act of Feb. 12, 1873, the dime’s weight was slightly increased. Arrowheads were added on both sides of the date on the heavier versions to make them look different from the lighter pieces.
