Sri Lanka's Stamp Featuring Penny Black Stamp

The Sri Lanka postal administration issued a special postage stamp to mark the 75th anniversary of the Penny Black stamp.The completion of 175 years of the issue of the world’s first postage stamp marks a unique milestone in the history of the world post. It is because of the issue of the world’s first postage stamps – the Penny Black, postal service that existed till then began to become a more systematic service.
Following the issue of this stamp postage system that existed in Britain till then became a systematic pre-paid postage system. The first stamp of the world was one penny in denomination and black in colour depicting the bust of Queen Victoria.
Hence, being the part of British Commonwealth, Sri Lanka postal administration came up with this commemorated stamp depicting the Penny Black stamp. Issued on 9 October 2015, this Rs. 10 stamp depicts the Penny Black stamp with the lettering "S" and "L". Map of India with Sri Lanka is depicted on the background.
