2016-11-18 Fri

On 17th November, the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee reviewed the designs for medal celebrating U.S. Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew. After the results of the presidential elections, several medals are going to be released which has been a tradition for more than 100 years.

The President Obama medal designs were selected, but the final one was not yet revealed. In 1890, the first medals honouring the secretary of the Treasury Department were issued. Lew is probably serving his final days in his position. The designs would be finalised by the Treasury while the CCAC and Commission of Fine Arts make recommendations that the Treasury will consider.

The recommended design features Secretary Lew with an American flag flying in the background along with the inscription “Jacob J. Lew”, the date when he was appointed for the position “February 28, 2013,” and the text “76th Secretary of the Treasury.”

The reverse features a quote “I would fight for Liberty so long as my strength lasted”, the inscription “Harriet Tubman” and the design element of the Main Building on Ellis Island.
