Annotated Copy of Sotheby’s 1954 King Farouk Auction Sold for $705

Kolbe and Fanning Numismatic Booksellers sold some important numismatic literature on 21st and 22nd October. One of them was an annotated copy of Sotheby’s 1954 King Farouk auction with notes from someone who attended the sale which sold for $705.An auction called “The Palace Collections of Egypt” was held in 1954 by Sotheby’s in London which offered the collection of Egypt’s King Farouk. The 1933 Saint-Gaudens double eagle was withdrawn from it.
The coins were not described in detail and this important annotated copy features the name and the Cairo address of Anwar Maher Farrag in both English and Arabic. His notes also mention about the buyers of many lots as well as comments on the coins in the sale.
The catalogue was used to calculate possible bids before the auction and jot down notes during the sale as well. The trimmed card cover has been mounted in a binding by an earlier owner.
