German Coin Celebrates 50th anniversary of a 1967 Sports Organisation

The 50th anniversary of Deutsche Sporthilfe, a privately funded initiative in European sports will be celebrated with the issue of an 18-gram silver €20 coin in May next year as a part of Germany’s commemorative coin program in 2017.

The club was formed in 1967 which dedicatedly works for nurturing and training young talent and top athletes in Germany.

The final reverse design by Adelheid Fuss, of Geltow, features different types of runners in sequence, which according to the officials portrays vitality and dynamism of sport.

The obverse features the federal eagle, the D Mint mark of the Bavarian State Mint in Munich, .925 silver, 12 stars of Europe, Germany, 2017 and €20. Edge lettering translates to “Performance, fair play, with each other”.

Uncirculated examples will be available at post offices for face value. Proof versions will be sold for a higher price, which will be established right before the launch.
