Printing of Rs 2,000 banknotes Began in Aug-Sept in Mysuru

Almost 480 million new 2000 rupees notes were printed at Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Ltd. (BRBNMPL) in Mysuru secretly from August-September. The paper note came from Italy, Germany, and London. Officials revealed that Dewas, Nasik and Salboni in West Bengal presses were not used in the initial phase. This press in Mysuru was set up with the De La Rue Giori, Switzerland. A similar kind of press has been set up at Salboni by Komori Corporation, Japan. Officials stated that other government presses will soon start printing the new notes. The bank note mills set up at Mysuru and Hoshangabad in Madhya Pradesh will fulfil 70% of domestic currency demand for some time. 17 new features have been included in the Rs 2,000 notes to stop counterfeiting activities. The Statistical Institute (ISI), Kolkata, estimated that Rs 400 crores worth FICN was in circulation, National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data says more than 1,80,000 fake currency notes of Rs 1,000 denomination were seized in 2015 by agencies like National Investigation Agency (NIA), CBI) and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) etc.Related links:
