Bahamani Sultan Humayun Shah’s Coin Sold for INR 55,000

Ala Al-Din Humayun Shah was the Sultan of Bahamani kingdom; he was the son of Ala Al-Din Ahmad Shah II. The Bahamani kingdom was founded by Alauddin Hussain in the year 1347 AD. He assumed the title Alauddin Hussain Bahman Shah after he sat on the throne, and it is from the title that the kingdom is called as Bahamani kingdom.Ala Al-Din Humayun Shah issued coins in gold, silver, and copper. Both his gold and silver coins are rare and his copper coins are scarce. One of his gold coins has a quotation of ‘Qur’an’ inscribed on it.
The gold tanka in the image which weighs around 11.1g was sold for INR 55,000 at Oswal Auction. The obverse of the coin inscribed as ‘Ala Al-Dunya Wa’l Din Humayun Shah Bin Ahmad Bin Ahmad Shah Al-Wali Al-Bahmani’ with the date Hijri date 863 written at the bottom and the reverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Al-Mutawakkil Ala Ilah Al-Ghani Abu’l Mughazi’ meaning He who trust in God, the powerful, the rich’.
