Stack’s Bowers Galleries is going to conduct its 0fficial Auction at the ANA World’s Fair of Money from 13th to 16th August in Rosemont, Illinois. One of the highlights at the auction is a recently discovered large-sized $5 banknote issued by the First National Bank of Santa Maria, California in 1904. To top it, the note features a Red Seal and serial number 1. Only Santa Barbara County bank was chartered in November 1904 and it circulated notes worth $907,750, which were liquidated in February 1928. Today, only 13 examples of these notes exist. The offered note has good margins and is modestly circulated. It features deep red overprint inks and bold signatures of bank officers Walker and McNeil. California banknotes with a Blue seal are not as rare the older versions or the ones with a red seal. The note will be offered at a pre-auction estimate of $25,000-$35,000.
