2016-04-14 Thu

Nagpur University has raised a complaint to the Ambazari police that Vakataka era coins, worth crores has been stolen from the department of ancient Indian history, culture and archaeology. But since there is no concrete evidence to support the complaint, it has been refused. They have been advised to conduct a departmental enquiry and an expert panel with a historian and numismatics specialist would be formed.

Since HOD Preety Trivediis is also a suspect, she was not allowed to lodge the FIR. She had also not informed the concerned officials about the missing coins for three years. NU Internal Quality Auditor Cell (IQAC) director MM Rai was asked to lodge the FIR.

Details like year of make of coins, their exact value, exact date when they went missing, and use of material in minting them were not clear and hence the complaint was not registered.
