Dr. Anugrah Narayan Sinha

One of the architects of modern Bihar, Dr. Anugrah Narayan Sinha breathed his last today on 5th July 1957. He was a great statesman and one of the leading nationalist in the Indian Independence movement. Entire India remembered him as a ‘Bihar Vibhuti’.He was born to Visveshwar Dayal Singh on 18th June 1887 in a family of Poiwan village, Bihar. After completing M.A. in 1914 from Calcutta University, he was appointed Professor of History at Bhagalpur University.
He was an active participant of many socialist and independence movement and campaigns such as Champaran Satyagraha Movement, Salt Satyagraha. For which he suffered imprisonment many times.
After independence, Dr. Sinha served the first Deputy Chief Minister cum Finance Minister of the Indian State of Bihar. He was also a member of the Constituent Assembly of India. The Department of Posts released a commemorative stamp in his memory.
