Falkland Islands Error Stamp

The HMS Glasgow error is a 6d postage stamp error produced by the Falkland Islands in 1964.The Falkland Islands are a group of islands located in the South Atlantic Ocean to the south-east of South America. At various times, the islands have had French, British, Spanish, and Argentine settlements until the British reasserted its rule in 1833. The Postal Service at the Falkland Islands began in the year 1878. In 1964, stamps commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Battle of the Falkland Islands were issued. These stamps with the value of 6d became notable for the HMS Glasgow error. The design error featured the incorrect ship, HMS Glasgow, instead of HMS Kent which should have been used. It is believed that only the one sheet of 60 stamps were produced and only 17 stamps have been recorded. A single stamp from the Sir Gawaine Baillie collection was sold in 2004 for £24,000, and another example was sold in May 2005 for CHF29, 000. More recently a marginal example sold in December 2006 for £30,555.
