Macedonian Stamp Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11 Landing

On 21st March, the Republic of North Macedonia issued a special 101-denar postage stamp to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first manned moon landing. On 20th July 1969, Commander Neil Armstrong of Apollo 11 mission became the first human to land on moon’s surface. However, the Macedonian stamp depicts a photograph taken on 1st August 1971 by Apollo 15 commander David R. Scott.Lunar module pilot Astronaut James B. Irwin is offering a military salute, standing near the United States flag that was hoisted during the Apollo 15 lunar surface extravehicular activity (EVA) at the Hadley-Apennine landing site. The Lunar Module (LM) ‘Falcon’ is in the centre while Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV) is on the right.
The issuing country’s name was changed from the Republic of Macedonia to the Republic of North Macedonia on 12th February. This stamp was one of the first ones to feature the new country name. Inscriptions can be seen in 3 languages, Macedonian, Albanian and English!
