2019-06-14 Fri
The Westminster Collection and Great Ormond Street have teamed up to introduce new 50ps collector coins for the British Isles featuring the iconic and lovable character, Peter Pan for the first time ever. The coins celebrate 90 years since author, J.M. Barrie, donated all future rights of the book to the hospital. A portion of the money raised through the sale would be donated to GHOSH Charity to fund support services, research, equipment etc. for the hospital. The coin depicts David Wyatt’s illustration of Peter Pan from the Oxford University Press edition and a popular quote from the book. Apart from Peter Pan, five other coins feature five different characters - Captain Hook, Tick-Tock the Crocodile, Tinkerbell, Wendy and Nana. Thousands of collectors, coin-enthusiasts and Peter Pan fans have already booked them online. The coins won’t be entering general circulation as they are not released by the Royal Mint. Issued by the Isle of Man, the uncirculated coins can be bought for £6.25, silver coins are priced at £65 and gold versions cost £995.
