Ahmed, I was the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1603 to 1617 AD. He is best known for his construction of the Sultan Ahmed Mosque (Blue Mosque) near the Hagia Sophia, one of the most famous mosques in Turkey. He introduced a new regulation for the improvement of land administration.During the reign, he issued gold and silver coins in the denomination of Akce, Altin, Beshlik, Dirha,m, and Para. These coins were struck at various mints some of these mints are Amid, Kibris, Tukat, Sakiz, Constantinople, Edrine, Usbuk, and Trebizum.
Depicted above is gold Dinar issued during his reign from Tilimsan mint. The obverse of a coin bore the legend ‘Ahmad bin al-sultan Mehmed’ fully legible in the final two lines.
