2019-05-08 Wed
Less than a month ago, the world witnessed a devastating tragedy of fire-ravaged Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. This 850 years old Gothic Structure is being reconstructed. A set of three coins has been issued to commemorate the great church, with funds from sales of the coins being raised toward the reconstruction. This stunning proof coin honoring Notre Dame Cathedral is issued by the Monnaie de Paris (Paris Mint) to raise funds towards rebuilding the Cathedral following the devastating fire to the UNESCO World Heritage Site on April 15, 2019. This 2019 France EUR10 Notre Dame Cathedral Proof coin is struck fine silver.
The obverse design is divided into geometric segments suggestive of the cathedral's stained glass windows. The segments contain images of gargoyles, the cathedral's towers, and famed rose window, with "NOTRE-DAME DE PARIS", "15/04/2019 RECONSTRUCTION" and "RF" (French Republic) inscribed in sections.
The reverse depicts the same image except for the inscriptions which include "2019," "10 EURO" and "PATRIMOINE MONDIAL DE L'UNESCO" (UNESCO World Heritage). Only 5,000 coins were issued. The Mint will donate EUR20 (about $22.50 USD) to the Notre Dame reconstruction fund with the sale of each proof.
